Tansen is a small town located 125 kilometres from Pokhara in the Palpa district. Tansen is also know as Palpa-Tansen or Tansen-Palpa. Tansen is a short 15 minutes drive upwards from main road between Pokhara and Lumbini. The town itself is located at an altitude of 1350 metres above sea level and it is one of the most renowned summer resorts of western Nepal. In the surroundings there are many traditional villages to visit and the Shree Nagar Hill offers scenic mountain views. Situated on the way from Pokhara to Lumbini, some stop here just for lunch but an overnight is highly recommended.
Some important places to see in Palpa and Tansen are:
Shree Nagar Hill View Point
Located on the North Side of Tansen is the famous Shree Nagar View Point. A comfortable half an hour walk will bring you to the top of this view point. From the viewpoint you have a rare chance to view an incredibly long panorama of mountains, ranging from Kanjiroba, Dhaulagiri, Annapurna and Langtang Himal in the north, whereas the plains of the lowlands(Terai) can be observed southwards.
Amar Narayan Temple

This temple was built by the governor of Palpa in 1815 A.D. to commemorate the victory over colonial British Indian Forces in the battle of Jitgadh. In 1935 A.D. the temple suffered major damages due to the devastating earthquake that took place that year. The temple which is seen nowadays is a rebuilt temple, that is said to be much smaller than the original temple. Annually in August a chariot procession takes place throughout the town to commemorate the historical battle and victory.

The Ranighat palace was completed in 1954 and was built by the governor of Palpa in memeory of the queen, Tej Kumari.
